On Wednesday 12th July 2023 the RING OUT team took 4 groups off in a minibus to visit Matthew Higby’s bell engineering works.

This visit was one of the most popular events of the RING OUT project and possibly the Frome Festival. We heard about bell-founding and casting, restoration, tuning and hanging bells. We had the chance to see a bell rope being made and a few bell ringers among us were invited to ring Matthew’s mini ring.

While visiting we saw the bells from Nunney Church which were at the workshop for restoration. The bells were rehung at the end of September 2023, including an additional 2 bells making a new ring of 8. The first official ring took place at the rededication service on 1st October 2023.
